SELIG: NEUKÖLLNS NEW PLACE TO BE

Last week I headed to check out the new gorgeous restaurant, Selig, in Neukölln. The newly modernized and renovated restaurant is built into the wing of the stunning old church Kirchengemeinde Genezareth in the middle of Herrfurthplatz. The restaurant is a block away from Berlin's famous Tempelhofer Feld, and the perfect place to start the day (or end it for that matter.) 

Selig can be a quaint breakfast cafe, a place for you to read the newspaper and enjoy your coffee and Eggs Benedict, or a lunch spot with sandwiches and salads to relish in the sun on the terrace. It can also be a romantic dinner outing or a new place to grab some drinks with friends. The restaurant is flooded with light on a sunny day with windows surrounding the whole place. I saw both while I was there, beaming sunshine, and a torrential rainstorm- but regardless of the weather, you'll want to hang out here for a while. There is also cozy couches to curl up on, during the colder months. It has a bit of a jungle feel to it as well with draping tropical plants everywhere. The venue is also available for events and would be an incredible place to gather all your friends together in fashion. 

I got to have a chat with the head chef about his creative food preparation styles and his unique approach. He likes to put a modern and fresh twist on things by pickling or barely steaming the vegetables. The flavors were powerful and nicely complemented by the other parts of the meal. I got to try the breakfast Acai Bowl that was blended with raspberries and topped with berries, mint, banana, and the homemade granola. They make the granola from scratch with dates, nuts, and seeds then slowly baking everything to make the perfect treat. I also had to order one of my favorites, the Eggs Benedict- one with ham and the other with avocado. The portions are a great size and will definitely keep you full for a while. Lastly, I tried one of their specials- a soy sauce glazed giant portobello mushroom with pickled vegetables on the side. I've never tried anything this creative and interesting- it literally melted in your mouth. The menu has plenty to choose from, whether you're feeling more traditional or want to try something new and of course vegetarian options.
