Every since I moved to Berlin nearly 2 years ago, I always admired the nautical pub that sits on the canal in between Neukölln and Kreuzberg. Ankerklause is a maritime cafe where you can sit on the patio along the canal and watch the swans and kayakers go by in the warmer months. You can also sit on the front patio to people watch in one of the most bustling and trendiest parts of Berlin. On Tuesdays and Fridays the Turkish Market called Maybachufer takes place right outside the restaurant and is perfect for an afternoon of entertaining. This restaurant isn't only enjoyed in the summer though. With classic Italian coffee and delicious cake to keep you warm, it's the perfect spot to go listen to good tunes when you have the wintertime blues. Whether you want a traditional German "frühstück" or something different for breakfast- the menu has plenty to chose from. I went by for lunch and order the most delicious Vegan Burger and the Caramelized Goat Cheese salad and seriously cannot stop thinking about it. You can also order a hearty Mexican breakfast or a traditional American style breakfast. The best part is there is something for everyone to order. The establishment has been around since the early 90's and is a staple for the Keitz along with the spree that it sits on. Youngsters grab a beer and line the Landwehrkanal to hang out when the weather is nice. It really has held its aquatic theme with its seaside decor and famous juke box. The former boathouse gives you the feeling you've gone back in time. Ankerklause isn't just known for it's good food though- it's also famous for its late night parties. Locals tend to love the pub, but it's also great to take your family to while visiting.
