CHUPENGA: MEXICAN/CALIFORNIAN FOOD IN MITTE
As you probably know by now, I'm from Texas and often really miss good Mexican food in Europe. Luckily Berlin is adapting quickly. I discovered Chupenga last year and was excited to find out they recently opened a second (huge) location! I rode my bike through one of the business districts in Berlin on my way there, admiring all of the beautiful architecture and broad streets. The original Chupenga opened in 2016 near one of my favorite plazas in Berlin, Gendarmenmarkt, and the new one is near the famous Check Point Charlie.
Chupenga is a mix between Mexican and Californian food, serving modern and authentic burritos, salads, tacos, carnitas, and burrito bowls. You can choose something off the menu, or you can make your own according to your dietary requirements or food intolerances. There is also plenty to order if you're a vegetarian or vegan. Everything is prepared in the store from scratch and uses only the freshest ingredients that are delivered each morning. They have newly added quinoa to the menu as a rice substitute giving you even healthier options. They also have margaritas, fresh lemonade, and the most addicting tortilla chips on the planet. Another new favorite was the thinly sliced sweet potatoes to add some extra heartiness to your meal. I love eating anything with this superfood, as it keeps you full for a lot longer.
The new Chupenga also introduces a separate awesome coffee bar featuring tea from Paper & Tea and coffee from Berlin's famous roasters Bonanza along with brownies, croissants, and other delicious treats. There is another new addition as well- a giant working corner! I love this since I am a freelancer and half of the time I'm working from home. It's always great to find new places with wifi and nice tables to work from. They have a long working table that is perfect for group meetings away from the offices or lunch parties. There is also a bookshelf filled with magazines and books to read on your lunch break when it's time to disconnect from your phone for a bit.
